Now, the man has been ordered to stand trial on charges of first-degree murder in the shooting death of two youths in eastern Oklahoma.
Kevin Sweat, was charged in June 2008, for the murders of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker. The girls were found shot to death on a rural road near Weleetka, 90 miles east of Oklahoma City.
Okfuskee County Associate District Judge David Martin ordered Sweat Tuesday to stand trial for their deaths.
Sweat, who is 27-years-old, was already in custody after being charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Ashley Taylor, when investigators linked him to the deaths of the girls. His trial in the death of Taylor will begin in several months.
Sweat has pleaded not guilty and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. He told police that he killed the two girls because they were really monsters, according to the initial investigation.
