(Scroll down for video) A U.S. teen girl nearly died after smoking potpourri, or fake weed with some friends, according to press reports in Texas.

The teen girl suffered a series of strokes that left her with brain damage and paralysis after smoking synthetic marijuana that she bought at a local gas station.

Emily Bauer, 17, has also not been able to see since December when she smoked the fake weed with friends which caused her family to launch a campaign to ban the substance.

At first, Emily, of Cypress, Texas, thought she had a migraine and decided to lie down. But then she suffered the strokes, which puts her in a psychotic-like state, according to press reports.

While under the influence of her hallucinations she ran into the walls of her home and became extremely violent.
After 24 hours, her family became extremely worried since she had not come down from the drug. The family called the police to put her in an ambulance and take her to Northwest Cypress Hospital.

The doctors induced her into a coma for testing of her brain and discovered that the strokes caused severe vasculitis.

Her family was told that she would never recognize them again and will never have the use of her arms or legs.
Her parents then decide to remove her breathing tube and feeding tube, but miraculously she fought and one day she told her mother she loved her.
