A Jewish group is demanding that facebook immediately delete a page on its social media website titled f*** Israel, according to press reports in the United States.
On facebook, more than 100,000 people are fighting each other in an online extension of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The battle is centered around the facebook page called f*** Israel, which has more than 36,000 fans and has a constant stream of anti-Israeli statements or pro-Palestinian statements.
Now, Jewish groups, including the Anti-Defamation League, are pressuring facebook to remove the page, claiming it violates the rules of the website. Increasing the pressure on the social media website, an online petition asking for the removal has received more than 80,000 signatures so far.
The removal of the page should not be such a hard goal to achieve. The site quite explicitly prohibits incitement to hatred, which it defines as “the content that attacks people based on their actual or perceived race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation or disability.”
One would think that the name “f*** Israel” alone would be an immediate red flag for hate and harassment for facebook, but apparently not. The people behind the page, which claim to be Turkish, have been publishing comments on the page for almost two years.
