Police officers in Southern California are looking for a disgruntled former police officer wanted in a double murder and is suspected of shooting three police officers early Thursday, killing one of them.
The Riverside Police Department, said that one of their officers was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second officer had surgery.
The third officer is with the LAPD and was shot in Corona, 50 miles east of Los Angeles. A bullet grazed his head and he is expected to recover.
The LAPD said that the suspect is former LAPD Christopher Jordan Dorner, who has a vendetta against the department and is now a suspect in the death of college basketball coach Monica Quan and her boyfriend, Keith Lawrence. He is described as armed and dangerous.
“The suspect fled the scene and we are in the process of trying to identify and arrest the suspect at this time,” a police spokesperson said.
The shootings reportedly occurred Thursday while authorities were searching for 33-year-old Dorner, who police said implicated himself in the murder of Lawrence and Quan on facebook.
Among his postings on facebook, are threats against several people, including members of the LAPD, police said.
