A convicted New York rapist admitted today to raping more than 10 children in Jerusalem, according to a statement by police in Jerusalem, Israel.

Israeli Police in Jerusalem arrested **, a 48-year-old ultra-Orthodox Jewish man yesterday for allegedly sexually assaulting 11 boys and girls aged between 10 and 14-years-old.

The divorced father of three reportedly admitted his crimes to the police and is cooperating with the investigation. The victims are all the children of his friends.

Police say their investigation showed that several ultra-Orthodox Jewish activists knew about the crimes but did not inform the police.

Instead, the man was privately treated with medication that was supposed to reduce his sexual impulses.
Both the doctor who administered the medication and the community leader who financed the treatment will be questioned by police.

Police learned of the sexual abuse a few months ago, after a mother of an 11-year-old Tel Aviv girl filed a complaint. The girl was allegedly sexually abused or witnessed sexual abuse by the man on her visit to Jerusalem.
The man was arrested based on the complaint and admitted to having abused many children.

Police believe there are many cases beyond the 11 children he admitted to, because of two incidents of child sexual abuse he was convicted in New York in 2010. He was arrested in March of that year and was deported to Israel in October. His original sentence was 11 months in a prison in the city of New York. The Israeli police investigation is being helped by INTERPOL.
