(Scroll down for video) A teen girl was sentenced to 30 days in jail after flipping off a judge in a courtroom, according to video uploaded to the internet.
Now, the young woman begged the judge for his forgiveness in exchange for dropping the 30 day jail sentence, according to court proceedings in Florida.
The young woman who lives in Miami, Florida, apologized for flipping off the judge, who then withdrew the contempt charges and annulled her 30 days in jail sentence.
18-year-old Penelope Soto, admitted on Friday that she was under the influence of alcohol and Xanax when she made the obscene gesture and rude comments earlier this week at the Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat. Video of the confrontation quickly went viral on the internet.
Soto tearfully apologized to the judge, who said the episode should be a lesson in how to treat people properly. Rodriguez-Chomat warned Soto that she would be a convicted felon if he allowed the contempt charge to stand.
Her lawyer said that Soto will complete a program of the drug court, which includes treatment for drug addiction and usually results in charges being dropped for first-time offenders.
