A Republican Jewish billionaire has announced that he will donate millions of dollars to Jewish educational institutions in Nevada, according to press reports in the United States.
Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Miriam, have donated $50 million to Jewish private schools in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Founded in 2006, the Adelson Educational Campus serves approximately 600 students from kindergarten through high school.
“We are grateful to the Adelsons for this extraordinary gift,” Paul Schiffman, director of the school, said in a statement. “The Adelsons have been very involved in every aspect of our school and we have benefited greatly from his good advice. Our ability to move forward without debt allows us to fulfill our mission with greater freedom and imagination,” he added.
Adelson campus was modeled after the Reali School in Haifa, Israel, where Miriam Adelson studied for 12 years.
“It was an institution that not only had high academic standards but also instilled the values and lifelong friendships,” Miriam Adelson said in a statement.
“I am pleased to see that the Adelson Campus now offers its experience for students, giving them a sense of belonging and personal history. With this donation, my hope is that the school will remain a home for generations,” she added.
