A former Osama Bin Laden associate was found living among Jews in London, England, according to press reports in the United Kingdom.
The Osama Bin Laden deputy, Omar Abu Omar, also known as Abu Qatada, is currently living on a street along with several Jewish families, only half a mile from a synagogue in London.
Bin Laden went to Abu Qatada, a Palestinian born in Bethlehem with Jordanian citizenship, in 2001, to receive from him the moral authority to issue fatwas for Salafi extremists who were skeptical of his authority to rule on Islamic law. Since the approval of Abu Qatada, Bin Laden’s Sharia law rulings became more widely accepted in some circles.
Abu Qatada has been in and out of British prisons for years. The Muslim leader is currently on bail pending a decision on deportation to Jordan, where he said he faces possible torture.
Right-wing groups have been protesting his presence in the neighborhood, prompting fears of racial violence between local Jews and Muslims.
