(Scroll down for video) A man is facing arrest and criminal charges after he was caught by a speed camera going 68 miles per hour on his skateboard, according to video uploaded to the internet.
The professional skateboarder is potentially facing jail after uploading a video that aims to show him skating at an astounding 68 miles per hour through traffic.
Skater Decio Lourenco, faces charges after Cape Town city officials said that his high speed skating actually triggered a speed camera. The speed limit in the city Lourenco was skating through is 37 miles per hour.
“All that was needed was for one of those drivers to panic and swerve into oncoming traffic and cause a large number of deaths, as it had happened in the past, the security spokesperson told a New York based newspaper. “Unless action is taken against him, another aspiring skater will copy his stunt and one of events will come to a tragic end,” the spokesperson added.
It is difficult to argue that the stunt was dangerous and reckless, especially with oncoming traffic in the opposite lane, but Lourenco is a professional skater, accelerating down many roads in the past.
In addition, his videos on YouTube includes notices discouraging others from trying to recreate his feat, which has been viewed more than 600,000 since it was published on YouTube last month.
