(Scroll down for video) A female daycare worker was arrested and charged after raping a 5-year-old girl, according to police reports in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The daycare worker, who is 19-years-old, was indicted on Friday in the kidnapping of the girl, who attended a Philadelphia elementary school, last month, after the girl remembered a talking bird at the home where she was assaulted, authorities said.
Christina Regusters was charged with kidnapping, rape of a child, conspiracy, aggravated assault and other offenses and was being held on $4 million bail, District Attorney Seth Williams said in a statement. She was one of four people who were questioned living in a house a few blocks from Bryant Elementary School in West Philadelphia. The other three were released.
Regusters worked in an after school child care program with the victim, who was taken from her classroom by a woman posing as her mother, according to the Philadelphia Police Captain John Darby, director of the department’s special victims unit.
Investigators believe the suspect and the victim then walked a few blocks to a house where a man was waiting. The child was blindfolded, ordered to take off her clothes and put on a black, adult size shirt and ordered to hide under a bed, authorities said.
She was apparently thrown some 18 hours later in a park about a mile from the school, on the outskirts of the city and was found by a passerby, shivering in the playground. When found, the girl told her rescuer: “I’ve been stolen.”
The investigation began after a woman wearing a black Muslim dress, with her face covered by a veil, posed as the mother of the girl and took her out of class, officials said.
