(Scroll down for video) A dead woman’s body was found inside a water storage tank on top of a Los Angeles California hotel, according to police reports in California.
British tourist Michael Baugh and his wife said that water was only seeping from the sinks in the Cecil Hotel, for days.
On Tuesday, after a shower, brushing of his teeth and drinking some tap water, he went to the front desk and found out why.
The body of a Canadian woman was discovered at the bottom of one of the four tanks on the roof of the historic hotel. The water in the tanks have been used for water taps by guests to wash and for drinking.
“The moment I found out, I felt a little sick to my stomach, literally, especially after drinking the water,” Michael Baugh, 27, said.
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials issued a do-not-drink warning on Tuesday while a laboratory analyzes the water, Terrance Powell, director of the department, said. The revelation contradicts earlier police statements that the water has been deemed safe. Test results are expected for Thursday.
Powell said that the water was also used for cooking in the hotel, a cafe in the hotel is closed and has instructed workers to disinfect food before reopening.
The remains of Elisa Lam, 21, were found by a maintenance worker at the 600-room hotel that charges $65 a night after guests complained of low water pressure.
Police detectives were working to determine whether her death was the result of a crime or an accident.
