(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested and charged after telling police that two men shot her son, which turned out to be a lie, according to court proceedings in California.
The woman who once planted a human finger in a bowl of chili from Wendy’s as part of an extortion scheme is back in trouble for allegedly serving up another hoax.
Anna Ayala, 47, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of lying about a shooting involving her son last year in San Jose, California.
The mother allegedly gave a vivid descriptions to the police of two men who allegedly shot her son, who is 26-years-old on his ankle for no apparent reason.
The long arm of the law investigated and determined that she lied in order to hide the fact that he accidentally shot himself, a prosecutor told the a New York newspaper.
The son, Guadalupe Reyes, has a criminal record and is not allowed to own or operate a firearm, the prosecutor said.
“She clearly has a history of manipulating the system to her advantage. This was another attempt,” Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney, Bret Wasley, told the newspaper.
Ayala was a brief media sensation in 2005 when she planted a severed finger in a bowl of Wendy’s chili after purchasing the finger for $100 from a man who lost it in an accident at work and knew her former husband.
Ayala now faces up to four years in prison if convicted of filing a false report and acting as an accomplice of a criminal with a gun.
A police report obtained by the newspaper said that Reyes eventually admitted that he shot himself.
