(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested and charged with murder related charges after she left three of her children to die, according to court proceedings in Illinois.

The Illinois woman believed to be the mother of two children found dead in the trunk of a car that was seized by police admitted Thursday to letting another baby freeze to death along a rural road about five years ago.

After reaching an agreement with prosecutors, Katie Stockton of Rockton pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of the infant known as Baby Crystal, who authorities believe was the daughter of Stockton.

Winnebago County State Attorney, Joe Bruscato, agreed to drop other charges in the case, which had been set to go to trial Monday.

After Stockton was arrested in the death of baby Crystal investigators discovered that her car had been sitting in an impound lot for a year. They towed the car to the Sheriff Department facilities in Winnebago County, in order to find more clues in this case and instead found the remains of two other infants wrapped in a cloth and put in separate plastic bags.

Authorities said that DNA evidence found that Stockton was probably also the mother of the two children. She has not been charged in those deaths.

Stockton was originally questioned in the death Baby Crystal many years ago after the newborn’s frozen remains were discovered in a plastic bag along a dead end road near the home of her parents. Prosecutors said that when detectives interviewed Stockton hours after the discovery, she lifted her shirt and asked if it looked like she had just given birth.

Stockton refused to give a DNA sample, but detectives investigating the death collected evidence off of a cigarette butt that saw her discard. Authorities said that the saliva matched with the clothing found with Baby Crystal and Stockton was arrested.
Bruscato said subsequent tests showed Stockton was the mother of the baby with a 99.96 percent certainty.

Stockton faces up to 60 years in prison when she is sentenced next month.
