(Scroll down for video) After a number of reports of babies being sexually molested, a cleric called for all girls, including babies to be fully covered by wearing the face veil, commonly known as the burka.
Instead of calling for harsher punishment for child molesters, he is calling for drastic measure on babies.
In a television interview on the Islamic TV, Sheikh Abdullah Daoud, emphasized that the use of the veil is to protect girls from being raped. According to reports, some people have taken the ruling seriously and started dressing their baby girls in burkas.
Daoud, caused a firestorm on social media. This ruling caused many people to become outraged, as one person wrote: “how about having men wear burkas.” That might be a good idea since a child molester would not know the difference between girls and boys, which might cause him to think twice before grabbing a child. With this ruling the child molesters will easily be able to identify baby girls.
Former judge Sheikh Mohammad al-Jzlana, said that the decision to have baby girls in burkas “was denigrating to Islam and Shariah law and it made Islam look bad.” Jzlana urged people to ignore the ruling and explained that there is “special regulations set by the Saudi authorities to administer religious edicts and appoints those who are entitled to issue them,” he said.
The former judge also said that he feels sad every time he sees a family walking around with a baby in a burka, which he describes as an injustice to children.
