A family is overwhelmed with gratitude to their beloved pet parrot who has saved their son’s life.
17-year-old Ben Rees, from Carmarthenshire, Wales, was home alone when he looked forward to a relaxing evening.
Rees, lit an incense stick near his bed and he went to take a shower.
After a while, his cockatiel parrot named Cookie, who was housed in Rees’s room began squawking and making loud noises.
Then the parrot flew to the bathroom and continued making noise as if he was calling for help.
Ben, went to investigate the cause of trouble and discovered the house was on fire. Ben was able to leave the house, but Sadly, Cookie the parrot did not survive.
“He was the guardian angel of Ben, and died a hero. If Cookie had not squawked like it did, I’m sure Ben would have died too,” his mother, Vicky Rees, said.
Investigators, determined that the fire started when embers from the incense stick fell onto the bed.
“I’m heartbroken over the lose of my beloved pet. He saved my life,” Rees said.
“The parrot died a hero. It is so sad it didn’t make it out alive. We will never forget what it did,” Vicky Rees said.
