A woman finally saved up enough money to buy herself a new iPad but was very disappointed after she purchased one at Walmart, according to press reports in Massachusetts.
She spent $499 on the new iPad at Walmart, but found only a piece of painted plastic when she opened the box.
Suzanne Nassie is furious after someone exchanged the real tablet for a fake, it had no power cord, no way to turn on and the ink spots where speakers were supposed to be.
To make matters worse, the store in Brockton, Massachusetts, refused to refund the money when she complained.
Nassie told a television news station that she knew there was a problem when she opened the package.
“When I looked at the port in the back where you’re supposed to charge it, it was just plastic. There was no metal spikes or anything of that nature,” Nassie said.
She returned to the store with the fake tablet just 20 minutes after the purchase, but the staff said that she could not speak to a manager.
After some press exposure the store manager relented and offered a full refund.
“It’s frustrating that someone tries to take advantage of others for their own benefit. We have apologized to our customer and offered a full refund,” a spokesperson for Walmart, said.
The spokesperson also said that the store was investigating the incident and that future iPad buyers were welcome to open the box after making the purchase to verify that the actual product is there.
