The young Orthodox Jewish couple on the way to a hospital to have their first child died in a car crash early Sunday, but their son survived.

Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were traveling with a car service to go to the hospital when another vehicle crashed into the side of their car at an intersection in the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn, the Hasidic community activist, Isaac Abraham, said. Nathan Glauber was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital, while his wife died in Bellevue, police said.

The couple’s son was delivered at the scene and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Abraham, who is also a neighbor of the parents of Raizy Glauber and lives two blocks from the scene of the accident, said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the couple’s car fled the scene, police said. No arrests have been made.
The car service driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.
Abraham called the couple’s death “a tragedy beyond belief”, as they prepared to welcome their first child.
