(Scroll down for video) A woman admitted in court that she was paid to say that she had sex with a U.S. senator, according to press reports in the United States.
Senator Robert Menendez criticized allegations that he had paid a Dominican woman for sex and expressed hope Tuesday that those behind the claims would be exposed following a notarized confession of the woman that she had never met the New Jersey Democrat.
“I hope you will now pursue those who are behind this smear campaign,” the senator told news reporters.
In a notarized statement filed in court, Nexis de los Santos Santana said that she was recorded without her knowledge when she said that Menendez had paid her for sex.
“I am the person in the video. It’s me and those are my words, but this is not true,” Santana said in the court statement. “I never agreed to be recorded,” she added.
Besides the criticism for accepting plane flights and allegedly advocating on behalf of a company, Menendez was accused of partying with prostitutes in the Dominican Republic, charges he said were baseless.
As he did when the claims were first raised, Menendez said Tuesday that the claims are false smears started by right winged blogs ahead of the election.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
