(Scroll down for video) A young woman was killed after going inside a lion enclosure at a California animal park, according to police reports in California.
The 4-year-old lion killed the woman as she entered the enclosure at the Fresno County animal park Wednesday, leaving zoo officials stunned.
The lion, named Cous Cous, attacked the woman when she entered the lion enclosure around 12:30 pm, Dale Anderson, founder of Cat Haven, told reporters gathered outside the park on Wednesday afternoon. A visibly shaken Anderson refused to answer questions about the incident.
The woman’s name has not been released, but she is believed to be about 20-years-old.
Cous Cous had been raised in the park since it was 8-weeks-old, Tanya Osegueda, who is the spokesperson for Survival Project, said.
“It’s so tragic in every way,” she said.
Anderson added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.”
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesperson, Ryan Michaels, told a newspaper that emergency crews were called to the scene after a reported animal bite, but the victim was pronounced dead when they arrived.
Michaels confirmed that the person was inside the enclosure when the attack occurred.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
