President Obama has received a warning not to visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel, during his visit to Israel later this month, according to press reports in Israel.
Declared terrorist group, Hamas, has warned President Obama not to visit the holy site, saying the action would set off a diplomatic catastrophe.
Obama has not confirmed the visit to the Temple Mount. Muslim leaders however, have heard rumors and have issued a strong statement against such a visit.
Hamas said Obama’s visit to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is located just on the south side of the mountain, would be an imminent danger to the Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem has never faced. Hamas, which has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department since 1997, also called an Obama a visit to the site of the Zionist occupation an act of danger.
Ekrima Sabri, who is the head of the Higher Islamic Council in Jerusalem, said his group insists on Muslim sovereignty over the Temple Mount.
