(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested and charged with murder related charges after killing a little boy because the noise of passing cars woke him up from his sleep, according to court proceedings in Minnesota.
The Minnesota man accused of killing the 9-year-old boy, stood in the street and shot indiscriminately at passing cars. The man told investigators he did it because people had intentionally disturbed him from his sleep by revving their engines in front of his home, according to a search warrant affidavit.
Nhan Lap Tran, 34, is charged with six felony counts, including second-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder during an assault. He had previously admitted to the shooting but had not given a motive, prosecutors said.
The shooting occurred one day last month, shortly after 6:00 pm, in the St. Paul suburb of Oakdale, a few feet away from his home. Fourth grader, Aryal Devin died in the shooting. His mother and another woman were wounded. Two others escaped while they were being shot at, according to the criminal complaint.
Tran told investigators: “cars had been following me around for a while and people driving cars were revving their engines while parked outside my home in order to wake me up from me sleep,” the affidavit said. “This is why I shot at the cars,” he added.
During the first court appearance, his public defender requested a mental health evaluation.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
