A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder related charges after shooting a police officer he found in bed with his naked wife, according to court proceedings in New Jersey.

Now, the Staten Island, New York man accused of shooting a New York Police Department police detective he found in the house of his estranged wife has been charged in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

A grand jury hit Robert Dunbar, 35, on charges of attempted murder for allegedly grabbing the gun of the off-duty police officer and fired several shots, including one that hit the police officer, Louis Pepe, in the back.

Dunbar’s lawyer said that the shooter found the police officer in bed with his wife, after the couple’s son complained of strange men in the house located in Manalapan, New Jersey.

Dunbar came by and found his wife, Deborah, naked in the bedroom with the off-duty police officer and the two men came tried to grab the service weapon, a .38 revolver.

Dunbar’s lawyer has said that the shooting was accidental and the husband did not realize the man in the house with the gun and his wife, was a police officer.
