(Scroll down for video) Bees can be deadly not only to humans who are allergic to bees but to dogs as well.
A swarm of bees attacked and killed a North Hollywood, California dog, after a family cut down a tree that housed a bee hive.

The man who cut down the tree fled down the street, but the 5-year-old pitbull, did not manage to escape in time. Neighbors said that children were playing in the yards close by at the time, but no one was injured.

“We all have kids and dogs,” a neighbor told a television news station. “Luckily, the bees did not hurt a child, but it is terrible news that they killed a dog,” the neighbor added.

Los Angeles firefighters responded and sprayed foam on the bees which killed them, but the threat remains until the remainder of the tree is removed. It remains unclear if the insects were normal bees or of the more aggressive Africanized variety.

There have been several bee attacks on dogs in Southern California in recent years, many of them by killer bees or Africanized bees.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
