(Scroll down for video) Israelis and Palestinians are having complete opposite feelings about the upcoming visit of President Obama, according to press reports.
While nearly all Israelis are rejoicing with the arrival of the U.S. president, Palestinian are protesting against the upcoming visit of U.S. President Barack Obama in Israel and the Palestinian Authority.Dozens of residents of Bethlehem on Monday destroyed a large banner with the image of the U.S. president.
Young Palestinians are protesting a pro-Israel U.S. policy, and emphasized that the president will not receive a warm welcome in Bethlehem.
Protesters, some of whom belong to the Palestinians Organized Movements, while others are relatives of Palestinians jailed in Israel, gathered near the Scene of the Nativity, removed an Obama sign and then proceeded to drive away with the billboard.
Last week Ramallah’s main streets were filled with signs asking Obama to leave his smartphone at home when visiting Ramallah as Israel prevents Palestinian Authority from using third-generation cell technology. Unknown vandals marked an “X” on several Obama posters.
Elements within the Palestinian Authority opposed the protest claiming that the issue of cell phones pales in comparison of more pressing issues, such as prisoners, settlements and U.S. military support of Israel.
