(Scroll down for video) When you think about buying a bottle of small soda you used to pretty much know what type of bottle to expect. Not anymore.
Pepsi is rolling out a new design for its 20-ounce bottle for the first time in about 17 years.
The new bottle appears easier to grip and the surrounding label is smaller so that more of the beverage is exposed to the eye. The change follows a series of bold moves in the last year by PepsiCo to improve the sales of their soda, including a multi-year agreement to sponsor the halftime show of the Super Bowl, and a wide-ranging agreement with the pop star, Beyonce.
PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, New York, has been working to revitalize the brand after losing market share to Coca-Cola Co. in recent years.
Andrea Foote, a PepsiCo spokesperson, said the new 20-ounce bottle is part of the updating of the company’s marketing materials and packaging. The single serve bottles which are widely sold in refrigerators at pharmacies and other retailers, will begin rolling out next month. The new form will also be used for the 16-ounce bottles, which are not as common, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Pepsi Next.
Foote said it would take a year or two before the new bottles completely replace the current bottles, which were introduced in 1996.
The new bottles will appear first in the New York area, then roll out to Chicago, parts of California and Florida.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
