(Scroll down for video) An Israeli civil rights organization has called to cancel a Roger Waters event after his recent anti Israeli and anti Semitic activities, according to a press release by Shurat HaDin.
“New York’s 92nd Street Y’s decision to postpone and not cancel all together Roger Waters’ event is appalling. Waters is a hater of Israel and a vocal supporter of the anti-Semitic BDS movement which seeks to boycott the Israeli democracy. Just because Louis Farrakhan, who began his career as a calypso singer, can carry a tune doesn’t mean he would have been invited to speak at the Y as well” – this according to Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, director of Shurat HaDin – Israel Law Center.
Recently, the 92nd Street Y announced that Waters will be appearing at an event titled “A Conversation with Roger Waters.” Tickets for the event were to be sold at a price of $240-$400. The April 30 event has now been postponed, and 92nd Street Y’s website asks the public to “please check back here for more details.”
In an interview this month the Pink Floyd singer announced support for the BDS campaign against Israel and even admitted he had asked fellow musicians, such as Stevie Wonder, to boycott the Jewish democracy. The Anti-Defamation League has classified the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement as “at its very core anti-Semitic.”
Darshan-Leitner: “Waters sees the Middle East’s sole democracy as parallel to the apartheid regime in South Africa. I guess he didn’t watch last week’s ‘The Voice of Israel’ which showed an Israeli-Arab girl winning our top singing contest on TV. It is inexcusable that a ‘quintessential’ Jewish institution, such as the Y, would invite an individual who is promoting hatred of Jews and Israel. We don’t need no British haters.”
Shurat HaDin – Israel Law Center is a Tel Aviv-based organization dedicated to enforcing basic human rights through the legal system and represents victims of terrorism in courtrooms around the world. Shurat HaDin’s clients include
American, European, and Israeli citizens. Shurat HaDin views the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (“BDS”) movement as an anti-Semitic campaign whose intention is to inflict harm on the Jewish People and the State of Israel.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
