(Scroll down for video) The world’s sexiest computer hackers stole millions of dollars from residents of the United States.
Kristina Svechinskaya is one of the girls who are accused of hacking people’s private information by sending people a virus through an innocent looking email.
Svechinskaya became known as the world’s sexiest hacker. She has pleaded guilty to her role in an international fraud scheme.
Svechinskaya opened at least five accounts under her own name and other aliases at Wachovia Bank and Bank of America in which over $35,000 was fraudulently deposited into those accounts, affecting three victims. She withdrew $11,000 before she was arrested, according to court documents.
Prosecutors believe that Svechinskaya was recruited as a “money mule” by a large group of hackers who stole more than $220 million. The group managed to withdraw $70 million before being caught, according to press reports.
Svechinskaya was not yet sentenced for her charges of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and using fake passports.
College students are now being educated about the risks of becoming “money mules” so they don’t unknowingly become part of the scam.
Studies show that one fifth of students who were contacted with the offer to make money as a money mule accepted the offer.
