(Scroll down for video) A Hertz Rent-a-Car manager was arrested after a gun was stolen from a rented car.
The manager at a Florida Airport Hertz Rent-a-Car was arrested for allegedly stealing a gun which was accidentally left in a car that was returned to Hertz.
Douglas Orr, 32, who works at the Punta Gorda Florida airport was charged with theft of a firearm after he was allegedly found with a gun which had gone missing from a car which was returned to Hertz rent-a-car.
A man had rented a Hertz car to collect belongings from his late father, which included a loaded 45 caliber handgun.
The man returned the rented car without realizing that he left the loaded gun in the car.
The man returned to Hertz to retrieve his gun but employees said they did not find a gun in the car. The man was given access to the car. He searched it but found nothing.
The receptionist then called manager Orr, who confirmed that he found the gun but claimed that he turned the gun over to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
The gun owner called the Sheriff’s Office. He spoke with a deputy who checked and said there was no report of a firearm that was turned in.
After an investigation, deputies found the gun in the possession of the Hertz manager. Officers returned the weapon to its owner.
Orr was arrested and charged with grand theft of a firearm. He was taken to the Charlotte County jail and was later released after he posted $2,500 bail.
