(Scroll down for video) A man is lucky to be alive after a sinkhole swallowed him while playing golf.
The 43-year-old man was playing golf when he suddenly disappeared into the ground.
Marcos Mihal a married father-of-two from St. Louis, Missouri, fell into a hole on the Annbriar Golf Course near Waterloo, Illinois, while playing golf with three others.
Mihal, who is a mortgage banker was playing golf with his friend Ed Magaletta, who is a real estate agent, among others when he suddenly disappeared into the sinkhole which opened beneath him without warning.
His friends ran to help him but they couldn’t get to him since he fell 18 feet deep.
One man ran to get help. Russ Nobbe, who is a manager at the golf course brought a rope and a ladder to save Mihal.
The manager together with his golf partner Ed Magaletta were able to rescue Mihal from the sinkhole.
Luckily, he got out with only a shoulder injury.
“I was standing in the middle of the street, then suddenly, before I knew it, was underground,” Mihal said.
Geologist Philip Moss, examined the sinkhole and confirmed that this is the first case of someone falling into a sinkhole in Illinois.
