(Scroll down for video) A man found a dead cat and turned it into a carpet which sold for nearly $1,000.
Taxidermist Andrew Lancaster saw a dead male cat on the side of a highway. He took it home and turned it into a carpet.
“I thought it was a very nice cat. I made a U-turn and picked it up and took it home,” he said.
The taxidermist who likes to work with animals is always on the lookout for roadkill in New Zealand. Lancaster cleaned the cat and turned it into a small carpet.
Lancaster posed the taxidermied tabby on an online auction. He wrote: “great little gift for man cave.” The carpet sold for a whopping $955.
Some people loved it and called it “amazing art,” while others were angry and called it “disrespect to animals.”
The cat carpet upset animal advocates who said it was “disturbing”.
Eliot Pryor, from the animal advocacy organization SAFE, said the sale of cats was in bad taste. “There is something unpleasant about the attitude shown towards the dead animal,” he said.
