(Scroll down for video) One puppy is lucky to be alive after it was locked inside a car for one month, according to a statement released by an animal shelter.
The animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri is caring for a puppy that survived in a closed car that was impounded for a month in a city lot.
The 12-week-old puppy, who has been called Kia, apparently survived by eating garbage which was left inside the car. The schnauzer and terrier mix had no access to water.
Toni Fugate, who is a spokesperson for the animal shelter in the city, said that the puppy is dehydrated and malnourished, but was expected to survive.
Records show that the car was towed from the beach last month. An employee saw the dog Monday afternoon and called police, who broke into the car.
“Kia has got to be one lucky miracle dog. I have no idea how the dog survived without any water for a full month. I think that researchers should study this case further in order to learn how someone can survive a month without drinking any water,” Paula Perez, 36, of Kansas City, Missouri told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the dog.
The Kansas City Pet Project is working to find a foster home for Kia. However, the dog will not be available for adoption for some time.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
