(Scroll down for video) A man was forced to flee a store after a female employee threw hot sauce in his face.

The 24-year-old man entered the store on Sunday and ordered some food, but then he argued with staff over the price.

The would-be robber then went behind the counter and tried to open the cash register, New South Wales State Police said.

The quick-thinking worker at a Portuguese restaurant in Sydney, Australia stopped the man from robbing the store by throwing a bucket of chili pepper sauce in his face, leaving him with minor burns, police said.

The man hit the female employee in the chest when she tried to prevent him from stealing money. She grabbed a bowl of chili and threw it in his face.

“I didn’t think twice. I just wanted to protect myself. I threw all the chili on his face and then he got crazy because of that,” Joanna Tarnoski said.

“Hey, be careful who you start up with. Some women know how to fight dirty. The man should be happy he got hot sauce in his face, as it could have been a bullet,” Anthony Payne, 23, of Brisbane, Australia told after he heard Tarnoski talking about how she used the chili pepper to protect herself.

With a face full of pepper, he received some burns on his face, and he was quite red faced by the time police arrived to arrest him. The 24-year-old was charged with assault with intent to rob.
