(Scroll down for video) A woman was horrified after waking up in an emergency room only to realize that a man was sexually assaulting her, according to a statement released by hospital officials in New York.
A 49-year-old man, who police described as deranged, sexually assaulted the woman at Harlem Hospital after she fell asleep in the emergency room.
The woman, 45, whose name was not released, because she is the victim of a sex crime, fell asleep after doctors gave her a pain reliever because she injured her foot. She was awakened when Tyrone Brown, attacked her at 3:00 pm, a relative of the woman said.
“She woke up and he was on top of her, rubbing his privates on her mouth,” the woman’s niece said.
When the woman jumped up in order to get away, the man began to urinate on her, police said.
Hospital staff ran and grabbed Brown, who lives just a few blocks away and was being treated for an unknown injury, police said.
Police charged Brown of committing a criminal sexual act, a felony, before being transferred to Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
“This incident will be thoroughly investigated,” a hospital spokesperson said, adding that the staff offered the victim and her family counseling and support.
The family fears that the victim may have contracted a disease which cannot be detected for several weeks.
“We are just worried,” her niece said. “My aunt is very upset,” she added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
