(Scroll down for video) A New York teen is dead after saving his little sister from drowning in a New York river, according to hospital officials in New York.
Authorities said that the teenager drowned in the Niagara River in Buffalo, New York while trying to save his 7-year-old sister after she fell into the water.
The 17-year-old jumped into the river Monday afternoon after his younger sister was carried away by a swift current off an island in the river.
The teenager managed to get the girl back to shore, where his two older sisters were standing, but then was tragically swept downstream.
His 13-year-old sister jumped into the water to help his brother, but she also struggled against the current.
That’s when fisherman Leonard Stevens jumped into the water.
He rescued the 13-year-old girl, but the boy disappeared under the surface. Police divers found his body about 45 minutes later.
Police have not revealed his identity.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
