A dog made a miraculous recovery after being trapped for four days in an overturned boat, according to rescue workers in Alaska.

The incident occurred when an Alaska man’s boat capsized while he was out with two friends and a dog. The man and his friends made it to shore, but the dog remained in the overturned boat and survived in the overturned boat for four days.

Jeremy McDonald, 34, said the boat overturned while he was out with his friends, brothers John and Billy Minerva, all between 25 and 35-years-old, and the 30-pound Labrador retriever mix terrier, Cutie, which belonged to his brother’s girlfriend, on the Chena river.

McDonald and Minerva brothers were able to reach the shore, but were not able to find Cutie despite hours of searching.
McDonald said he was able to reach the damaged ship and Cutie several days later. Cutie revealed itself alive while still wearing its canine flotation device when a recovery team righted the ship.

“I was pretty sure we were going to go there and find a dead dog,” McDonald said. “It was almost a miracle,” he added.
John Minerva said he and his girlfriend, Grace Sommer, were glad to have the dog. He said he is recovering from his ordeal in the river.

“The dog was sore for a couple of days, but other than that it was fine,” Minerva said.
