(Scroll down for video) El Al planes are now safer as anti-missile systems are being installed on all commercial planes, the El Al CEO said in a statement.
For the first time, an El Al plane equipped with a C-MUSIC anti-missile system, which protects against portable missiles, successfully completed a test flight. The plane, a Boeing 737, carried out the test flight with the new system in place.
The C-MUSIC DIRCM systems will be installed in each civil aircraft traveling in high risk areas.
Arkia and Israir aircraft will also get C-MUSIC anti-missile systems.
Several terrorist groups have threatened to fire missiles at Israeli planes in recent years. Terrorists in Sinai are of particular concern, since they are known to have armed themselves with portable air defense systems.
In 2002, terrorists tried to shoot down an Israeli airliner in Kenya with surface-to-air missiles.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
