A man was sentenced to jail after using homemade instruments to tattoo his nephew.
Cruz Tenorio of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for tattooing the letter “I” on the arm of his 3-year-old nephew.
Tenorio, 29, must serve six months in prison and another six months in a halfway house when he is released from prison.
He will also have to pay restitution to his nephew. He will be responsible for all medical or psychological services the child might need due to the incident, including paying for the tattoo removal.
Tenorio pleaded guilty to child abuse after authorities said he tattooed his nephew’s arm using unsterilized tools.
Prosecutors said that Tenorio had no formal training to do tattoos and he did not take the necessary precautions to prevent infection.
