A man caused heavy traffic in the Holland Tunnel after he was caught using a booth as his bathroom.

Traffic was delayed after the man stopped his car, entered the Holland Tunnel booth in New York and defecated in it.

Police said that 21-year-old Kevin Nam of California was visiting New York when he allegedly left his car in the Holland Tunnel and defecated in the toll booth causing him to be arrested. Nam, who reportedly seemed to be intoxicated, answered the call of nature, which earned him a trespassing charge, Port Authority spokesperson Steven Coleman said.

Port Authority Police allegedly saw the man get out of his car while traveling in the north tunnel. He then walked inside the tunnel booth. Police allegedly caught him in the act of defecating in the booth, Coleman said. Nam had been in the car with three other passengers about 10:00 pm when he fell ill and asked the driver to let him out of the car. He then walked through the tunnel and used the booth to relieve himself.

The incident forced the closure of the north tunnel for about of 10 minutes as police conducted a “standardized security sweep,” Coleman said. The Holland Tunnel runs under the Hudson River connecting the island of Manhattan in New York City with Jersey City, New Jersey.
