The Israeli prime minister was seen recently writing letters in a new Torah scroll, according to photos uploaded to the internet.
This week, Benjamin Netanyahu attended a tour of Masada and the Dead Sea, including an ancient synagogue that has been built during the Second Temple by Herod the Great. The synagogue was discovered in the 1960s during archaeological excavations.
Rabbi Shimon Elharar, who is the director of Chabad of the Dead Sea area, offered Netanyahu to participate in the writing of a Torah scroll that is currently being written for the synagogue.
Netanyahu agreed. He put on a yarmulke and tzitzit, which is a small version of a Jewish ritual prayer shawl. The prime minister wrote the verse in Exodus: “And every wise hearted man among you should come and create all that the Lord has commanded.”
