(Scroll down for video) A young woman was ordered to leave a New York restaurant after taking off her shirt despite a state law that allows her to be topless in public.
19-year-old Cheyenne Lutek decided to take off her short after entering an East Village Manhattan restaurant this week.
“It’s not my personality as a model to be ashamed of my body,” Lutek, who quit college last fall to pursue a career on the runway, said. “I feel that no woman should be ashamed of her body or be ashamed to show it,” she said.
The New Jersey native was expelled from the Verso restaurant located on Avenue C after she caused a stir on Tuesday by dropping her blouse.
However, Lutek claimed that she was just doing her job. The 5-foot 9 inch tall blonde, who lists all the dimensions of her body on her modeling website, was working for a local photographer, whose advertisement she saw on Craigslist.
Allen Henson, 29, hired Lutek to pose for a series of pictures of naked women in public. The couple visited three restaurants in the East Village on Tuesday, and Henson is planning to take pictures of three additional models at other sites.
The artist insisted that her motives are purely artistic.
“We’re not trying to pick on anyone really,” Henson said. “It’s just the picture,” he added.
Women can legally take off their top anywhere men are allowed to go shirtless, but private companies can make their own rules.
Lutek said she went to a sushi restaurant Tuesday before being thrown out by Verso, and the Japanese establishment was happy to have her.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
