(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested and charged with having sex outside marriage related charges after being raped in Dubai, according to court proceedings in the UAE.
Now, the Norwegian woman, who was raped in Dubai, has been sentenced to 16 months in jail for having sex outside marriage.
The 25-year-old Marte Deborah Dalelv, was in the United Arab Emirates for a business meetings in March, when she was violently sexually assaulted.
She reported the incident to the police.
However, the police, instead of investigating the case, seized her passport and put her under arrest.
She was placed in a cell for several days, and was banned from using a phone.
The Consulate of Norway finally negotiated her release and she was placed under the protection of the local Norwegian Sailor’s Church.
Now, she faces an uncertain future after being sentenced this week.
It is unclear if she has returned to prison or allowed to return to Norway to serve her jail sentence.
“I have received a severe sentence for sex outside marriage, and for drinking alcohol. On top of that, I was convicted of perjury,” the woman said.
