(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested and charged with murder related charges after killing a nearly 100-year-old woman, according to police reports in New York.
New York Police said that the 20-year-old Poughkeepsie man, who was charged late Friday with murder and burglary in the death of a 99-year-old woman, was being held in the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
Police charged Javon Tyrek Rogers with murder in the first degree and robbery in the first degree, in connection with the killing of Fannie Gumbinger, Police Detective Lieutenant Edward Freer said in a written statement late on Friday.
As a result of the investigation, Rogers is also is a suspect in several recent robberies in the city, including a theft on Loockerman Avenue on Wednesday, Freer said.
Rogers faced Judge Katherine Moloney. Gumbinger was found dead in her home at 22 Underhill Avenue, early on Wednesday.
“We are still processing evidence,” the police lieutenant said.
Dutchess County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Kari Reiber said that Gumbinger died of “multiple injuries” after an autopsy was performed on Thursday, but did not say what was the cause of her death, citing the ongoing investigation.
In a press release by police, residents were told to be on the lookout and were advised to lock their windows and doors of their homes.
