(Scroll down for video) A teacher was arrested, charged and convicted of child rape related charges after raping one of his underage students, according to court proceedings in Montana.

Now, the man has been sentenced to just 31 days in jail. The judge claimed that the girl looked much older than 14-years-old.

Yellowstone County District judge sentenced the man for raping his student, who committed suicide, on Monday.

Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Stacey Dean Rambold to 15 years in prison, with all but 31 days suspended, for having sex without consent.

Rambold, 54, will be given credit for one day he already served. He was handcuffed and taken to jail at the end of the hearing.
The judge’s decision was not well received by the girl’s mother, who repeatedly shouted “You suck!” as she was leaving the room.

Auliea Hanlon had testified at the hearing that her daughter’s relationship with Rambold was an “important factor” in her suicide, and asked the judge to send Rambold to prison.

“Please put him behind bars,” she said.
Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Rambold to 20 years in prison.

Rambold pleaded guilty to one felony charge in April, in a case that began in 2008, when school authorities and the police first learned of the sexual relationship the teacher had with student Cherice Morales.

Rambold was put on paid leave in April of that year and resigned his teaching job three months later. He also gave up his teaching certificate.

While the case was pending, and a few weeks before her 17th birthday, Morales took her life.
