A man was arrested, charged and convicted for stealing his father’s dead body because he wanted to bring his father back from the dead, according to court proceedings in Michigan.
Now, the man accused of stealing the body of his father from a Detroit cemetery, will be sentenced to probation.
Vincent Bright pleaded guilty on Monday, to a charge of digging up a body. He faces sentencing next month in the County Circuit Court.
“He seems to be doing well,” defense attorney Gerald Karafa said on Tuesday.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Bright will get probation with credit for time served. The judge also ruled that Bright could be released on bail, Karafa said.
Bright had faced up to ten years in prison.
Bright, then 48, stole the body of 93-year-old Clarence Bright from the Gethsemane Cemetery and stored the body in a home freezer. The police, acting on a tip from other family members, found the dead man at the home of Vincent Bright in the east side of Detroit.
Police said Vincent Bright is religious and took the body in hopes that his father would be resurrected.
Prosecutors asked for a mental health examination for Bright, and he was found competent to stand trial.
