(Scroll down for video) A woman is very angry after she woke up with a mustache after surgery, according to a lawsuit filed in court.
The woman sued her local hospital after a doctor painted a fake mustache and put teardrop-shaped stickers on her face while she was asleep.
Veronica Valdez, 36, had worked at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, California for 13 years before having a surgical procedure on her finger.
After surgery, while she was still asleep, her anesthesiologist, Doctor Patrick Yang, cut and colored labels before placing them on her face.
“I thought she might think it’s funny and she would appreciate it,” Dr. Yang said.
“I was violated I was in shock,” Valdez said in court documents.
The incident led to a state investigation and a civil suit by the patient against the doctor and the hospital claiming an alleged violation of medical privacy.
A hospital spokesperson admitted that it was a “breach of professionalism” and the people involved “showed poor judgment” while caring for Valdez.
“My client does not think it was funny, obviously. She took it as a complete violation of her dignity and of her status in the hospital,” her legal representative, Andrew Ryan, said in a statement.
Hospital officials reported the incident as a potential violation of medical privacy.
The staff involved were disciplined, but it is understood that they kept their positions.
