(Scroll down for video) An investigator was arrested and charged with theft related charges after he allegedly stole from the dead people he was investigating, according to police reports in Florida.
Agents of the Tallahassee Police Department and the Jacksonville Police Department arrested Christopher Dwight Allen, 46, early on Friday on charges of official misconduct, trafficking in stolen property and false verification of ownership.
The investigation began in May, when the relatives of a woman in Hamilton County reported that a ring, watch and necklace were stolen from their loved ones after their deaths. The agents said they checked pawn broker transactions and found that Allen sold 62 pieces of jewelry to pawn shops in the previous year.
Investigators said that at least some of the items pawned were stolen from dead people whom Allen had access to as a forensic investigator in the Office of the Medical Examiner District 4 in Jacksonville.
Allen of St. Johns County, was arrested around 7:30 am at the Medical Examiner’s Office and taken to the Duval County jail.
