A restaurant came under extreme criticism after workers decided to identify two guys as the “gay guys” on their receipt.

The slur was used to identify two men, who were sitting in a bar located in Judson, United Kingdom. 26-year-old Al Butler and his platonic friend, who identified himself as straight, said he was extremely surprised.

“Obviously I thought it was inappropriate,” Butler said in an interview. “It is equally unacceptable like racism. It’s not a bad thing to be called gay, although I’m not and neither is my friend, but I think that jumping to conclusions is bad,” Butler also said.

After issuing a complaint in person about the incident, the bartender told Butler: “Sorry, I cannot do anything.”

Bar owner Peter Ward has issued a public apology, saying: “We have apologized unreservedly. Though it was completely wrong, I do not feel it was a biased incident. It was completely unprofessional and not what our business is about.”

The waitress in question has been sanctioned and Judson bar is looking into training strategies in order to ensure that the incident does not happen again.
