(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested and charged with causing the death of a girl and a boy after they were buried alive while playing at a construction site, according to police reports in North Carolina.
Lincoln County Police said that a local father, who was working in a two-stories deep pit, which collapsed and killed his daughter and her cousin, was charged on Thursday with two counts of manslaughter.
Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter said Jordan Arwood, 31, was charged after a lengthy investigation.
“This has been a very tragic event and we continue to pray for all involved in this as our investigation is handed over to the courts,” he said.
Arwood was detained in the county jail $15,000 bond.
Arwood was operating a backhoe at a pit in April, when the walls collapsed on six-year-old Chloe Jade Arwood and on seven-year-old James Levi Caldwell, in the small town of Stanley, which is about 20 miles northwest of Charlotte.
It took rescue workers and emergency services personnel more than 12 hours to locate the bodies of children.
While investigating, sheriff’s deputies found weapons and a marijuana plant in Arwood’s house.
After the accident, Arwood was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and for possession of a controlled substance.
