A woman was jailed after she told police that her fiance held her hostage and tried to kill her.
The woman gave police an 8-page statement of how her fiance imprisoned her and threatened to stab her to death. The statement also said that he was is controlling and jealous.
Russell Crowe, 21, was engaged to Sarah Lopez, 32, of Barry, south Wales, United Kingdom, but when things did not go well between them she called police.
Lopez told police that Crowe had broken into her house in middle of the night and struck her with a glass bottle. She said that he tied her to a chair, gagged her and put a pillow over her head.
Lopez also told police that Crowe pressed knives on her and said: “This is gonna get ugly.”
Lopez, who has one child, told police that Crowe had previously threatened to kill her.
Due to the seriousness of the crime, Crowe was held without bail.
However, after he spent 30 days behind bars awaiting trial, Lopez admitted that she had made the whole thing up.
Lopez is not a stranger to the court system. She is said to have convictions, which include theft, assault, drug possession and harassment.
Attorney Sara Griffiths defended Lopez saying she was vulnerable at the time as she had been drinking at the time when she made the accusations.
Lopez pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the cause of justice.
Judge Neil Bidder said “It was a wicked crime” before sentencing her to 10 months in prison.
