Jacksonville Police said that a 70-year-old woman is behind bars for trying to hire an undercover detective to kill her daughter-in-law. The woman told him that he could take expensive jewelry from her body when the job was done.
Diana Reaves Costarakis of Middleburg, offered the detective $5,000 in cash when they met at a Home Depot located at 9571 Crosshill Boulevard in Jacksonville on Wednesday.
She gave him $500 as the first payment as well as a photo of the woman, her address and a description of her car. The woman gave him another $1,000 when they met again on Thursday.
“The suspect told the detective that her daughter-in-law wore expensive jewelry, and when the job was done, he could take the jewels from the victim’s body,” a police spokesperson said.
“She said that diamonds could be removed and sold without a trace and that the money could be used for the final payment,” the spokesperson also said.
Costarakis promised to take care of things if the detective did not.
“When the detective asked if Costarakis wanted her daughter-in-law dead, she replied: ‘If you do not kill her, I will,’” police said.
